Almond tree native to southwestern Asia and its
edible seed. There are two varieties, sweet almond and bitter
almond. Sweet almonds are the familiar, edible type consumed as nuts and used
in cooking or as a source of almond oil or almond meal. The oil of
bitter almonds is used in the manufacture of flavouring extracts for foods and
liqueurs, though prussic acid must first be removed.
Planting &
Care
Water: After planting, almond trees should be heavily
watered with at least a gallon of water to thoroughly hydrate the soil and you'll
want to maintain a regular watering schedule as the tree grows.
Fertilizer: Almond want to
use small doses of Nitrogen every few weeks throughout the growing season.
Soil: Rich, light soil with plenty of organic matter
added.
Light: Almond trees need full sun, at least 6 hours a
day, but more sun will mean better blooms.
